Catalan Police Bust Moroccan Drug Ring: 9 Arrested in Tarragona

The Catalan police (Mossos d’Esquadra) arrested, on January 25, nine people of Moroccan nationality, in several municipalities in the province of Tarragona. These individuals, aged between 18 and 45, are accused of belonging to an organization dedicated to drug trafficking such as cocaine, hashish and marijuana.
The nine Moroccans arrested were involved in the retail trade of illicit substances in a house in Cubelles (Tarragone), which was strategically located to avoid being localized by the police, say the Spanish investigators.
Informed of the existence and operation of this site in August, the Catalan police forces conducted investigations that allowed them to discover that the defendants, of Moroccan nationality, had established a 12-hour business there. Cocaine, hashish and marijuana were sold to various people familiar with the place.
In addition to the arrest of these nine drug traffickers on January 25, in the cities of Bellvei, Vilafranca del Penedès and Cubelles, and in the premises located in the latter municipality, the Spanish investigators also seized 172,000 euros in cash, 125 grams of cocaine, 36 packages of hashish prepared for sale, 67 kilos of hashish in pill form and 35 glass jars containing marijuana. The black market value of the confiscated drugs is estimated at around 137,000 euros.
After being brought before the court, six of the nine arrested persons were remanded in custody, while the other three were released on bail. They are being prosecuted for public health offenses and for belonging to a criminal organization.
