Casablanca Zoo: opening tomorrow and tariffs revealed, the controversy persists

After years of waiting, the Aïn Sebaâ park finally opens its doors this Tuesday. Faced with the outcry over the prices deemed high, Mayor Nabila Rmili unveiled on Monday "family" packages in an attempt to appease the spirits.

The announcement was made during the extraordinary session of the City Council held on Monday. Aware of the virulent criticism regarding the standard admission fee set at 80 dirhams per person, Nabila Rmili highlighted a preferential pricing grid for households. Thus, a family of two adults and one child will be able to access the zoo for 160 dirhams, while the package for a couple with two children has been set at 200 dirhams.

The mayor also detailed the reduced rates: admission will cost 50 dirhams for children and students, and 30 dirhams for people with disabilities. Access will also be free for children under two years old. These measures aim to make the park more accessible, as many Casablancans denounce on social networks a pricing disconnected from the purchasing power of the working classes.

However, the debate remains lively between the residents who demand lower prices for this public service and those who believe that these amounts are justified to ensure the maintenance of the facilities and the quality of animal care. This long-awaited opening will serve as a full-scale test to assess whether the balance between profitability and accessibility has been found.
