Casablanca Slaughterhouses Go Green: Solar Panels to Cut Electricity Costs by 35%

In an effort to save energy and contribute to environmental protection, the Casablanca Slaughterhouses have installed photovoltaic panels for an amount of 11.8 MDH. The goal is to reduce the electricity bill by 35%.
This photovoltaic solar power plant consists of 4,374 panels, spread over an area of 8,487 m², with a power of 1596 KWc. It will allow this public institution to have a certain energy independence from the electricity supplier.
The project was able to benefit from the assets of the Casablanca Slaughterhouses such as the suitable geographical location and favorable sunshine, as well as the availability of vacant ground and roof surfaces. This has enabled the production of clean, inexhaustible and advantageous alternative energy, in line with Morocco’s energy policy.
In 2014, the Casablanca city council had already mandated Casablanca Prestations to manage and upgrade the Slaughterhouses, with the main strategic orientation being the modernization of the Slaughterhouses’ equipment, thus favoring the renovation of the entire Slaughterhouses’ refrigeration system, thanks to financing from the Casablanca municipality, estimated at 11.8 million dirhams.
The Casablanca Slaughterhouses have been approved by the ONSSA since 2016, and certified ISO 22 000 v 2005 since 2017, and this for three consecutive years.
