Casablanca Residents Protest Removal of 132 Trees in Urban Renewal Project

In Casablanca, the operation to uproot the century-old trees on Hassan Souktani Avenue, in the Gauthier district, is causing outrage among residents. Kenza Chraibi, president of the Sidi Belyout municipal district, sheds light on this operation launched on the night of February 9.
"The rehabilitation of Hassan Souktani Avenue is an urgent and pressing demand from the residents of the Gautier district in particular, and the residents of the Sidi Belyout commune in general. Unfortunately, it was necessary to act by moving the 132 trees to the sides of the street. Of which 75 dead or end-of-life trees, and 57 healthy trees that will be replanted in suitable places capable of receiving them in good conditions," said Kenza Chraibi, president of the Sidi Belyout municipal district. She will ensure that the trees on the street will also be replaced by others that are more numerous and better suited to this space.
The operation to uproot the century-old trees on Hassan Souktani Avenue is carried out "in respect of the environment without causing future damage to the sidewalk or the asphalt," she also assured.
