Casablanca Residents Frustrated as Tram Line Expansion Faces Months-Long Delays

The residents of the city of Casablanca are angry with the municipality due to the delays observed in the launch of the third and fourth lines of the city’s tramway.
Initially scheduled for last June, lines 3 and 4 have still not been launched, despite the installation of modern devices in the stations and the opening of automatic ticket offices, thus angering the residents of Casablanca. They have a hard time understanding the reasons for these delays. The lack of official communication from the company in charge of transportation is further irritating the residents of Casablanca.
These delays are not without consequences on the movement of the residents of Casablanca. The current delay not only affects the transportation schedule in the city, but it also aggravates the suffering of the residents of Casablanca who face daily transportation problems, notes Aljarida24, noting that the current tram lines suffer from a large influx. As a result, there is a sharp increase in the pressure on other means of transportation such as taxis, which now refuse to transport passengers to distant destinations such as the Aïn Diab beach, especially during the summer vacation due to traffic jams and the long distance.
In a statement to the same site, a source within the Casablanca municipality calls on the residents of Casablanca to be patient. He assured that the delay in launching the new tram lines is not due to technical breakdowns, but simply a matter of time. The coming days will be decisive, he added, stressing that the project is not suffering from any significant malfunctions, and that everything is progressing according to plan.
It should be noted that lines 3 and 4 will connect strategic neighborhoods such as Derb Sultan, Mohammed V Avenue or Sidi Othmane. The third tram line crosses the neighborhoods of Derb Sultan, Mohammed V Avenue, passing through Driss Elharti Avenue, and will extend over 14 kilometers with more than 20 stations, while the fourth line will connect the neighborhoods of Moulay Rachid, Victory Square, Rahal El-Meskini Avenue, Sidi Othmane, and Lalla Meryem, and will reach 12.5 kilometers, with 33 new stations.
