Casablanca Residents Demand Action as Stray Dog Population Surges, Raising Rabies Concerns

Faced with the proliferation of stray dogs that are potentially carriers of rabies and pose a danger, Casablancans are calling for urgent measures from the local authorities.
Casablanca is experiencing an alarming proliferation of stray dogs. This emerges from the testimonies of some Casablanca families collected by Aljarida24. These dogs represent a real danger for citizens, as they are not vaccinated and are known for their aggressiveness towards any person passing nearby. These animals have also become a nuisance, especially at night due to their continuous barking, it is assured. This situation creates a general psychosis in the economic capital. Residents of popular neighborhoods in Casablanca fear going to the mosque for the Fajr prayer, for fear of being attacked by stray dogs that have become numerous in the streets.
Faced with the persistence of the scourge of stray dogs, civil society actors do not hesitate to criticize the local authorities of Casablanca. They accuse them of being unable to solve this thorny problem. They blame the municipal council for negligence. Civil society expects the mayor of Casablanca, Nabila Rmili, to coordinate with associations directly related to residents’ problems and conduct field studies to overcome this problem.
