Casablanca Region: Several Mayors Summoned to Explain Themselves Urgently
Several commune presidents in the Casablanca-Settat region have received urgent letters from provincial authorities summoning them to explain the follow-up of the recommendations of the Regional Court of Auditors.
These letters specifically concern the collection of local taxes. The elected officials must now provide a precise assessment of the measures taken to improve tax revenues. According to informed sources, this request places many mayors in an embarrassing situation, as many have ignored the previous reports of the financial magistrates.
The authorities are demanding detailed reports and explanations on the observed delays. The stated objective is to put an end to what are considered unrealistic justifications and to ensure better revenue collection in public coffers.
This tightening of the screws comes after the publication of reports from the General Inspectorate of the Ministry of the Interior. These documents denounce serious flaws in several municipalities: lack of coordination with the Treasury, lack of on-site controls, and poorly followed debt collection files.
To rectify the situation, the Court of Auditors recommends a precise roadmap. This includes the widespread use of electronic payment, the recruitment of qualified personnel, and increased supervision to limit tax evasion.
