Casablanca Police Thwart Violent Clash Between Rival Soccer Fan Groups, 9 Arrested

A violent clash between two rival groups of ultras was narrowly avoided in Sidi Bernoussi, Casablanca. A judicial investigation has been opened to shed light on the matter.
The rapid intervention of a police patrol made it possible to avoid this violent clash between the two rival groups of ultras in Bernoussi, security sources said, specifying that one group refused to comply while one of its members tried to attack police officers with bladed weapons and smoke bombs.
The group members tried to prevent the arrest of the assailant, which led a police officer to use his service weapon to restore order, the same sources indicate. In total, nine suspects were arrested. Two of them, as well as a police sergeant, were injured during the skirmishes. They were taken to the hospital to receive the necessary care.
The other defendants are the subject of a judicial investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office in order to shed full light on this case.
