Casablanca Police Inspector Sentenced to Life for Double Murder of Young Suspects

The verdict was handed down on Monday in the case of the police inspector, found guilty of the murder of two young people in Casablanca. The court of first instance sentenced the defendant to life imprisonment.
The hearing, which was held by videoconference in accordance with health safety measures, put an end to a trial that lasted more than 16 months.
According to the press release from the General Directorate of National Security, a senior police inspector had intervened in July 2019 to arrest 4 young people who were intoxicated, including 2 girls. The individuals were suspected of being involved in criminal activities and carrying bladed weapons.
Forced to use his service weapon, the inspector fatally struck a young man and a girl who had resisted their arrest. The defendant, who was in the midst of wedding preparations, had been arrested later in northern Morocco.
