Casablanca Plans $40 Million Oceanarium to Boost Tourism and Marine Education

The Casablanca council is working on the creation of an aquarium bringing together various marine species and creatures capable of welcoming around 500,000 visitors per year and hosting several scientific and cultural activities and events.
The creation of an aquarium at the Casablanca Marina is one of the projects included in the Municipal Action Plan (2023-2028) of the City Council. With a total estimated cost of 400 million dirhams, this project born from a partnership with the Ministry of Tourism and the National Institute of Fisheries Research should see the light of day in 2028. The Casablanca-Settat Regional Council will contribute 50%, the Caisse de Dépôt et de Gestion (CDG) will provide 37% and the City Council 13%. After presenting the project and approving it during the extraordinary session of its council, scheduled for the end of March, the municipality will launch tenders for the realization of the technical, architectural and administrative studies, reports Le360.
The future Casablanca marine park should receive some 500,000 visitors per year. It should host several scientific and cultural activities and events, offer Casablancans a new entertainment space. In addition to raising public awareness of environmental issues and the preservation of marine biodiversity, the aquarium will allow visitors, especially the youngest, to discover many preserved aquatic animals and plants in its various aquariums and spaces, as well as to acquire new knowledge.
