Casablanca Overwhelmed by COVID-19 Surge, Transfers Patients Out of City

Casablanca is literally overwhelmed by the record number of Covid-19 cases. In an attempt to cope with this, patients are being sent out of the metropolis.
42% of cases, 40% of serious forms and 38% of the number of deaths! Figures that reflect the seriousness of the epidemiological situation in Casablanca.
Faced with this worrying picture, the health authorities are strengthening the reception capacity of the centers through the construction of day hospitals. In addition to the hospitals in Hay Mohammedi and Sidi Othmane (40 places each), a second tent, with a capacity of 50 places (added to the existing 40) is under construction within the My Youssef hospital, reports the newspaper l’Economiste.
Due to lack of capacity, patients are being distributed outside of Casablanca. Thus, patients from Sidi Othmane/My Rchid are sent into confinement in El Jadida or Benslimane. In El Jadida, even the space reserved for the horse show (exhibition park) is receiving patients. In Derb Sultan, the health authorities provide the medicines to the patients who are confined at home.
"We are welcomed in good conditions. The hygiene conditions, accommodation, meals... are impeccable," testifies a patient in confinement since last Sunday within the My Youssef hospital in Casablanca.
The Minister of Health, Khalid Ait Taleb, announced on Tuesday, September 8, "substantial" logistical support for Casablanca, which is clearly overwhelmed. He promised significant logistical support, the mobilization of human resources and the increase in the capacity of intensive care services, at the end of a technical meeting with the Minister of Industry and Trade and the Wali of the Casa-Settat Region, Governor of the Prefecture of Casablanca.
