A notary was sentenced by the Casablanca Court of Appeal to three years in prison, for breach of trust and fraud. In addition to this case, she is also being prosecuted in another case related to the spoliation of a real estate property. In total, this notary is ordered to pay 1,500,000 dirhams in damages to her victims.
In the face of such a scandal, the National Council of the Order of Notaries has joined the civil party in this trial after having dismissed the accused during a disciplinary council, reports the daily Al Massae.
The facts date back several months, but the verdict was handed down on November 20 last. The notary in question is accused of having abused the trust of her clients and used fraud. Indeed, details the same media, "the accused diverted large sums of money that were entrusted to her by her clients in real estate transactions".
Interestingly, this notary stands out as a repeat offender. Indeed, she had already been convicted, according to the same source by the Court of First Instance of Ain Sebaa, to a sentence of 10 years in prison. In this other case related to the spoliation of a real estate property located in the Casablanca-Settat region, the notary and her accomplice are accused of the spoliation of a real estate property with document forgery.
While she is required to pay damages to the victims of the first trial, the amounts of which vary between 46,000 and 350,000 dirhams, she is ordered to pay the sum of 400,000 dirhams, to compensate the victim of the second trial. The total amount of the sums diverted by the notary is estimated at 1,500,000 dirhams by the Casablanca Court of Appeal.
The arrest of the notary by the judicial police follows complaints filed by several victims against her, indicates the same source.
