Casablanca Man Sentenced to 12 Years for Fatal Brawl During Drinking Session

12 years of criminal imprisonment is the sentence handed down by the President of the Casablanca Court of Appeal against a man who murdered his neighbor. At 27, the defendant put an end to his dreams of the future because of a brawl that occurred during a drinking session.
A former repeat offender, the individual had already spent three months in prison for drug trafficking. Before the President of the Court, he tried to justify his act, arguing that he did not intend to kill his neighbor. But the judge reminded him that he was being prosecuted for involuntary manslaughter.
In his account, the defendant specified that the victim was not a friend but a neighbor. While they were drinking in the presence of friends, the victim insulted him. "I don’t know what got into him to insult me. He called me a homosexual because I didn’t want to give him a joint," he told the judge. They came to blows, before the story escalated a little later.
The victim brandished a knife, trying to strike him. But the defendant seized the weapon and, without thinking, pointed the knife at his chest. Losing consciousness, the victim ended up dying at the crime scene. The perpetrator waited for the police to arrive to surrender.
