Casablanca Launches Massive Stray Animal Sterilization Program, Targeting Over 6,500 Dogs and Cats

The committee in charge of the fight against pests and stray animals in Casablanca has captured more than 6,000 dogs and 551 stray cats for sterilization during the period from January to December 2019.
This operation takes place in Casablanca, after the successful experience of Marrakech. Hespress reports that the committee under the "Casablanca for the Environment" company has captured 6,600 dogs roaming the economic capital and posing a threat to the health of Casablancans.
This committee had previously benefited from nearly 20 million dirhams to acquire the necessary equipment and materials to fight the spread of rodents and pests, the same source supports.
The Committee also intends to implement the agreement concluded with the Ministry of the Interior, aimed at sterilizing these animals to ensure they do not reproduce, rather than proceeding with their elimination by firearm.
The committee also undertakes to sterilize and vaccinate more than 6,000 dogs and cats this year, although it has indicated that it has captured 15,000 of these animals, also noting that it plans to establish a "sanitary belt" around the city of Casablanca.
