Casablanca High School Closes for 2 Weeks After COVID Protocol Breach

The Lyautey high school will close its doors for a period of 15 days for having violated the health measures put in place by the government, said the Regional Academy of National Education in Casablanca-Settat, which also announced the adoption of distance learning as of this Friday.

For non-compliance with the current health protocol, the Lyautey high school will remain closed for two weeks. "A pedagogical action during recess at the high school has generated a gathering. We regret that this action has escaped the initially planned framework," said the principal of the high school in an email addressed to the students’ parents. For the school administration, this decision was made "in collaboration with the Moroccan authorities" in order to limit the spread of Covid-19. In a statement, the management added that the decision is justified "due to a recent increase in less than 24 hours of positive cases among students and the large number of contact cases resulting from it".

"The recent behavioral deviations of some students outside the establishment (organization of festive events)" would be at the origin of this increase in contaminations, specifies the management of the high school which recalls that "since the beginning of January, the students and the staff have respected the health rules within the establishment".

The establishment has also again adopted distance learning "for all students" and "according to the normal class schedule", announced the management, which stresses that "the return to face-to-face teaching with alternation by day will be possible as soon as the health conditions allow it again".
