Casablanca Grapples with Parking Crisis as Residents Decry Roadway Chaos

Casablanca residents denounce a resurgence of incivility related to the anarchic parking of cars. For now, no lasting solution has been put in place and the authorities mention a problem of mentality.
Casablanca residents clearly denounce a congestion of the roads that is not helped by the anarchic parking of cars, reports SRNTnews, adding that this social phenomenon is a real ordeal for the populations.
In their sights, the motorists who storm the sidewalks and abandon the parking lots installed by Casa Baïa, the local development company (SDL), indicates the same source. Yet, the revenues of this structure are intended to carry out projects aimed at the economic and social development of the city.
"The cost of the service is too expensive. My salary does not allow me to pay 6 dhs/h, or about 50 dirhams a day," complains Oussama, a Casablanca resident who appreciates the parking initiative, but denounces the prices he considers inaccessible to everyone. A finding that Khadija shares, who prefers to entrust the keys of her car to the guardian of the alley near her workplace instead of paying a spot in the nearby parking lot.
For Ahd El Khaili, communication manager at Casa Baïa, this recurring parking situation would result from a problem of mentality. "We will have to change the habits." Unfortunately, they are deeply rooted and Casablanca, like many Moroccan cities, will drain its daily share of traffic jams, sources of a lot of stress.
