Casablanca Governor Dismissed Over Historic Preservation Failures

The Governor of the Prefecture of Arrondissements of Casablanca-Anfa, Rachid Afirat, has been relieved of his duties. He is accused of mismanaging the file on the preservation of the historical and architectural heritage of the city.
This file concerns the Villa Mauvillier, a building erected in the 1930s as well as other buildings belonging to the historical and architectural heritage of the economic capital, reports the MAP.
His appointment as governor of the Prefecture of Arrondissements of Casablanca-Anfa by King Mohammed VI took place in August 2018. At the time, he had replaced Samir El Khamlichi. Before being promoted to his now former post, he had been Governor of the Prefecture of Arrondissement of Ain Chok and Director of Heritage at the General Directorate of Local Authorities.
