Casablanca Evacuates Hundreds from Crumbling Homes After Floods

The caïds and the auxiliary authorities have been tasked with updating their data on dilapidated houses and taking a census of their inhabitants, particularly in Derb Moulay Chrif, which has seen the collapse of several houses, reports the daily Al Massae, specifying that a joint commission from the Ministry of the Interior is on the job. Already, 70 houses have been evacuated and 400 families rehoused, the newspaper notes, observing that the process has not been completed, due to the depletion of the social housing stock with the company in charge of this mission.
Between 2012 and 2019, 1269 houses in the Mers Sultan area were inspected by the commission of the Ministry of the Interior, in collaboration with the public testing and study laboratory, a report states, the conclusions of which recommend the definitive destruction of 442 houses and the partial demolition of 191 dwellings, as well as the consolidation of 150 buildings, the restoration of 153 buildings and the carrying out of expertise on 333 other homes, details the same source.
With the help of specialized technicians, the said commission continues the work of taking stock of buildings threatening to collapse in popular neighborhoods such as the old Medina and Derb Moulay Chrif. In this context, in order to benefit from economic housing, hundreds of families have rushed to file their applications in the urban districts, concludes the media.
