Casablanca cracks down on unpaid rents

The regional services of Casablanca-Settat have launched in-depth investigations. In the crosshairs: the management of commercial and residential leases in several peripheral municipalities, including Bouskoura.

The findings reported by the inspectors are worrying. Many premises belonging to the State remain closed or house unprofitable activities. A situation that deprives local authorities of much-needed financial resources.

The reports point to excessive administrative tolerance. In the name of "social flexibility", municipal services have long turned a blind eye to payment delays, allowing debt to accumulate without applying recovery procedures.

Faced with these dysfunctions, the authorities have toughened their stance. Bailiffs have been mandated to send formal notices to defaulting payers. A successful strategy, as significant sums have already been recovered as a result of these actions.

The time has now come for regularization. The municipality is preparing new lease agreements including legal rent increases. The objective is clear: to put an end to amateurism and finally make the public property profitable.
