Casablanca Cracks Down on Negligent Property Owners With Fines

Casablanca wants to put an end to dirty, deteriorated, or abandoned facades. A new system now requires property owners to maintain, clean, and regularly repaint the exterior of their buildings.

When a facade is deemed deteriorated, the owner first receives a notification giving them one month to carry out the work. If there is no response, a final warning gives them an additional fifteen days.

If no action is taken after this deadline, the municipality may have the work carried out on their behalf. The bill will then be charged to the property owner, in addition to fines and procedures provided for by the regulation adopted in March.

Casablancans will have to pay up

In parallel, the city has mobilized nearly 15 million dirhams to restore and repaint facades in several targeted sectors. Three companies have been awarded contracts of approximately five million dirhams each.

The program, managed by Casablanca Aménagement, includes cleaning damaged walls, repairing them, and then repainting them according to technical standards set by the municipality.

Local authorities had noted significant deterioration of many buildings, particularly in densely populated neighborhoods. These aging facades are considered one of the most visible signs of urban disorder in the economic capital.

Priority will be given to major thoroughfares, main streets, and areas heavily frequented by visitors. Casablanca is thus seeking to improve its image ahead of the major sporting and international events the city is to host.
