Casablanca Court Postpones Appeal in High-Profile Student Murder Case

The Court of Appeal of Casablanca decided on Monday to postpone to November 13 the trial of the accused in the murder of Badr Bouljoihel, the student killed last summer in a famous restaurant in Aïn Diab.
The Court postponed this hearing due to the continuation of the strike by the Casablanca Bar Association, which began two weeks ago. Meanwhile, the victim’s family hopes that the higher court will confirm the sentences handed down against the accused at first instance.
"The confirmation of the first instance judgment would be the realization of justice and would allow justice to be done to the soul of Badr, while making the accused an example for anyone who would consider committing a similar crime," said Badr’s sister to Al3omk, reiterating her confidence in the judicial system.
The court of first instance had sentenced in mid-April the main accused of Badr’s murder, Achraf S. nicknamed "Ould El Fchouch", to the death penalty for premeditated voluntary manslaughter, attempted premeditated murder, participation in a robbery with violence, assault and battery.
His co-defendants received various sentences: Amine R. was sentenced to life imprisonment, Ahmed S. to 20 years in prison, Abderrafiq Z. to 25 years, and Hamid A., Achraf S.’s brother-in-law, to 5 years. All the accused were ordered to pay 500,000 dirhams to the victim’s parents, 100,000 dirhams to his sisters, and 30,000 dirhams to the other civil parties.
