Casablanca Corruption Allegations: Local Official Resigns, Accuses District President

A local elected official from the Popular Movement (MP) who has just submitted his resignation accuses the president of the Aïn Sebaâ district in Casablanca of corruption, abuse of power, capital flight and blackmail.
In his resignation letter dated August 16 and filed with the prefecture with a copy to the general secretary of his party, the local elected official, residing in France, denounces cases of corruption, extortion of funds and falsification of official documents.
The president of the district, a member of the same party, told the daily Assabah that he was unaware of the resignation of the elected official, let alone these unsubstantiated accusations. The official, who feels targeted by these accusations, has threatened to sue anyone who would harm his moral integrity.
The local coordinator of the MP, who was close to the president of the district and contributed to his election, confirms these accusations. Among other things, he reproaches the official for having diverted public money to buy real estate in a foreign country where he would be seeking to obtain nationality.
