Casablanca Considers Ban on Satellite Dishes to Restore City's Aesthetic

Casablanca could change its appearance in the coming months. A series of measures, including the ban on the installation of satellite dishes on building facades and roofs, could be taken by Wali Mohamed Mhidia.

Mohamed Mhidia, Wali of the Casablanca-Settat region, wants to restore the economic capital to its former luster and original identity. According to sources from the newspaper Al Jarida 24, he will work to implement decisions banning the installation of satellite dishes on building facades and roofs, as well as the demolition and banning of aluminum balconies. He intends to impose a uniform white color on existing and new buildings in the economic capital. A wish expressed by many Casablancans. On the web, they call on the administrative police of Casablanca to list the residential buildings, especially the old ones, with a view to repainting them in white.

This is not the first time the issue of painting residential buildings in Casablanca has been raised. Nabila Rmili, president of the municipal council, had launched an initiative to paint the building facades, in order to restore the economic capital to its former luster. An initiative that was part of the major transformations underway in Casablanca to preserve its identity and shine, and make it one of the largest cities in Africa. The elected official had called on the district agents and most of the presidents to mobilize the administrative police to impose the "whitening" of the building facades every five years. But the project has been delayed.

In addition, activists are calling for the acceleration of projects related to the historic architectural heritage, through its restoration, after the failure of the previous municipal council.
