Casablanca Closes Major Market After COVID-19 Outbreak Among Vendors

The famous Badr market in Casablanca, a hotbed of covid-19 infection, has been closed until further notice, Sunday, May 17, 2020.
This decision by the health authorities comes after the contamination of five vendors in this market with 200 shops (butchers, vegetable, poultry, spice merchants) with the coronavirus.
The first case of covid-19 was recorded six days ago, says a butcher to Le360. "When we found out, some stores closed and others remained open. But when the cases increased, and the virus started to spread rapidly, the authorities decided to close the market for a few days".
A source in the administrative police also confirmed the closure of the market. "The merchants of the Badr market will all be tested, and the market will remain closed at least until the end of Ramadan," she specified.
