Casablanca Authorities Demolish Unsafe Cafes After Restaurant Collapse

The authorities in Casablanca have launched a campaign to demolish cafes and restaurants in the city that pose a risk of collapse, and therefore a threat to the safety of customers and citizens.
The operation was launched last Wednesday in several neighborhoods of the economic capital, particularly in Bourgogne. The authorities decided to carry out this large-scale campaign to demolish cafes presenting a risk, following the collapse a few days ago of the roof of a restaurant terrace in the city, injuring 11 people.
The main objective of this operation is to strengthen public safety. The authorities are currently identifying establishments that pose a danger to their customers and passers-by in order to proceed with their demolition.
The local authorities have been active for a few weeks to rid the city of illegal or dilapidated buildings. This fight against the occupation of the public domain is being carried out at the instigation of the new Wali of the Casablanca-Settat region, Mohamed Mhidia, who has placed the liberation of public space at the heart of his priorities.
