Fuels: towards a new price spike at the pump in Morocco?
The recent increase in fuel prices, reaching 2 dirhams for diesel, revives concerns about purchasing power. Faced with the volatility of the global market, professionals in the sector are warning of the imminence of a new dizzying increase at the pump.
According to the information reported by Al Akhbar, the latest increase of around 2 dirhams for diesel and 1.5 dirhams for gasoline could be just a prelude. Fuel station operators warn of a possible price spike dictated by international disruptions and the soaring cost of supply.

This dependence on world prices raises recurring criticisms about the transparency of the applied tariffs. Market players note that "each increase in the barrel on international markets is quickly followed in Morocco by an increase at the pump", while the decreases are slow to be passed on, directly threatening the road transport sector.
On the ground, independent managers denounce the erosion of their profit margins, caught between the heavy operating costs (water, electricity or even salaries) and the pressure exerted by the large distribution companies.

Faced with this urgency, the political and trade union spheres demand the immediate intervention of the government. Rachid Hoummouni, president of the PPS parliamentary group, has formally questioned the Minister of Energy Transition, demanding the activation of the strategic stock, a temporary price cap and the cancellation of import taxes.
