Canary Islands Official Urges Action on Morocco-Israel Oil Exploration Deal

José Miguel Barragán, spokesperson for the group of deputies in the local Parliament of the Canarian Coalition (CC) formation, which chairs the regional autonomous government, sees the agreement between Morocco and an Israeli company for oil and gas exploration in the Moroccan Sahara in a negative light.
In an official intervention, José Miguel Barragán expressed his concern about the alliance between Morocco and Israel, aimed at exploring oil resources in the Sahara. The spokesperson for the group of deputies in the local Parliament of the Canarian Coalition (CC) formation, has called on the central government to reactivate the round tables between Spain and Morocco, in order to delimit the territorial waters of the archipelago. He also stressed the "weak role" of the Spanish government’s diplomacy.
To recall, the National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM) of Morocco had signed an agreement in October 2021 with an Israeli company to search for oil and gas in the waters of the Sahara, south of the Canary Islands, between Dakhla and the border with Mauritania.
