Cameroonian Man Sentenced for Targeting Homes of Moroccans Abroad in Meknes Burglary Spree

Friday 21 June 2019, by Amine

A man of Cameroonian origin has just been sentenced to three years in prison. He had been arrested at the end of an investigation following multiple complaints filed by Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) about burglaries they had suffered. This happened in Meknes.

This Cameroonian climbed walls, broke windows or used bunches of fake keys to enter the homes of Moroccans residing abroad (MREs), taking advantage of their absence.

He was sentenced to three years in prison by the Meknes Court of Appeal, according to the media Assabah, for aggravated theft, aggravated by climbing, the use of false keys, as well as for picking locks and breaking windows.

However, the media specifies that his sentence was reduced due to his difficult social situation since he lives in precariousness.

Despite a flood of complaints filed by MREs at the end of last year when they came to spend their holidays in Morocco, the arrest of the Cameroonian was pure chance. He had broken into a woman’s home and had started to steal her television, a phone as well as several other objects including beauty lotions and bath products, Assabah reports. But she caught him in the act.

He then reportedly tried to flee through the third-floor window of the building concerned. However, he fell. It was at this moment that he was arrested.
