Brussels Airport Sees Record Summer Growth, Morocco Emerges as Top Destination

Record growth for Brussels Airport, with volumes up 81% compared to 2019, the best result since the pandemic. Morocco is among the most popular destinations.
The upturn is confirmed at Brussels Airport. At the end of last July, the platform welcomed 2,223,105 passengers, or 81% of the pre-Covid attendance and a result "beyond forecasts", indicated the management on Thursday, specifying that this strong growth is attributable to the recovery of the vacation market and passengers this summer.
On the other hand, the cargo sector recorded a decline in activity during the period, recording a 14% drop in freight volumes compared to a year earlier, the same source cited by Belga points out.
The most visited countries were Spain, Turkey, Italy, Greece, Morocco, Portugal, Germany, the United States, France and the United Kingdom. It was especially Greece, Morocco, Turkey, the United States that posted good results. This trend was however negatively impacted by some cancellations due to strikes abroad or staff shortages, as well as the late recovery of Asian markets, explains the management.
As for the number of flights, the total number of movements reached 18,203, however down 19% compared to 2019. A historic record of 151 passengers on average per flight was finally recorded, compared to 137, three years earlier, the same source points out.
