British Couple Finds Silver Lining in Morocco Travel Disruption

While some foreign nationals stranded in Morocco following Morocco’s decision to suspend air links with the United Kingdom due to the country’s worrying health situation are expressing anxieties, it is the opposite for a couple from Whitby who say they have had a very nice experience.

The suspension of flights with the United Kingdom was announced on October 20, 2021, when Chloe Cervone, 24, and her partner Lucy Ross, 29, were supposed to take their return flight the next day. "There was absolute chaos in the hotel because of the rumors of flight cancellations. The Tui representatives didn’t really know what was going on either, so it was quite stressful," Chloe told Teesside Live. The couple packed their bags and went to the airport where they learned that their flight had been canceled.

Chloe and Lucy and other foreign nationals found themselves stranded at the Riu Palace Tikida Taghazout hotel, which had since been closed due to travel restrictions. A period of confinement that the couple say they were happy to have experienced. "Our families were really worried that we would be stranded, but we were really relaxed about it," Chloe recounts.

"We love surfing and we booked the hotel because we were told it was really good for surfing. We also had the chance to perfect our tan rather than freeze at home in Whitby, so we didn’t mind spending a few more days tanning!"

On October 23, Chloe and Lucy were able to return to Whitby, where they own an ice cream business - Flo’s Flavours Ice Cream - and say they are ready to relive the same experience. "Despite the canceled flights and being stranded, we would go back without hesitation. We are already considering booking again in March and taking our families with us this time!" added Chloe.
