US Breaks Ground on $300 Million Consulate in Casablanca, Boosting Morocco Ties

The new US Consulate in Casablanca will be ready by 2024. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on Thursday in the presence of the US ambassador to Rabat and the Wali of the Casablanca-Settat region.
According to a statement from the US embassy, several diplomatic personalities took part in the ceremony, which was marked by the intervention of the US ambassador, David T. Fischer. "The United States is betting on the future of Casablanca as a regional hub in the fields of business, trade, culture and travel, as King Mohammed VI’s project to make Morocco the gateway to Africa takes shape."
With a budget of over $300 million, the new headquarters project will generate 300 jobs at each stage of its realization and inject $100 million into the Moroccan economy, the statement continues.
Covering an area of 2.8 hectares, the new consulate will be located right in the heart of the Casa-Anfa urban development project. A marriage between contemporary American style and traditional Moroccan architecture, drawing its roots from Hispano-Moorish art, the design of the new building will reflect the historical ties between the two countries.
