Good news for Moroccans: the Office des Changes (finally) loosens the grip on foreign exchange

This is the New Year’s gift from the Office des Changes. Since January 1, 2026, the locks have been removed on foreign exchange allocations. Students, travelers and online shopping addicts now have significantly increased ceilings. Here are the details of what you can spend.

The General Instruction on Foreign Exchange Operations (IGOC 2026) has come into effect, and it is providing a breath of fresh air for Moroccan households. In an effort to adapt to the reality of international costs and new consumption patterns, the Office has raised several strategic ceilings.

Online purchases: 20,000 DH to click without counting

This is a much-anticipated measure for the connected generation. The e-commerce allocation, which allows purchases on foreign websites (Amazon, AliExpress, streaming services, software, etc.), is increasing from 15,000 to 20,000 dirhams per year. This 33% increase aims to support the growth of digital uses.

Travel: up to 500,000 DH in the suitcase

For vacations or personal trips, the system is becoming more generous and more progressive.

• The basic foundation: Each Moroccan is entitled to 100,000 dirhams per year, without condition.

• The tax bonus: You can increase this amount up to a total ceiling of 500,000 dirhams. This supplement is calculated based on 30% of the Income Tax (IR) paid the previous year. In other words: the more you contribute fiscally, the higher your tourism allocation.

• New: Foreigners residing in Morocco now have the same rights as nationals for these allocations.

Students abroad: 3,000 DH more per month

This is a relief for parents financing studies outside the Kingdom. Aware of global inflation and the cost of living in major university cities, the Office des Changes has raised the ceiling for monthly living expenses. It is increasing from 12,000 to 15,000 dirhams per month. A vital increase to cover rents and the daily life of students.

Start-ups: opening up to the international market

Finally, the text is particularly favorable to young innovative companies. Startups labeled by the Digital Development Agency can now invest up to 10 million dirhams per year abroad without seniority requirements. Their specific e-commerce allocation is also increasing to 2 million dirhams, to allow them to equip themselves with global technology services.
