Blinken to Chair Global Anti-ISIS Coalition Meeting in Morocco

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will travel to Rabat, Morocco in May to chair the meeting of the Global Coalition against Daesh.
On Twitter, Blinken wrote that this meeting to be held in Rabat will focus on official discussions concerning the common interests of regional peace and stability. In June 2021, Blinken had stated that "the attacks of recent months show that Daesh can still pose a threat and attract certain segments of the population." He believes the coalition must "include civilian initiatives for deradicalization and stabilization of liberated areas, offering social and economic conditions and opportunities to the local population in order to make them less vulnerable".
Founded in 2014 and comprising more than 80 countries and international organizations, the anti-ISIS coalition aims to annihilate the terrorist group Daesh. Since its creation, the coalition has carried out various activities such as military operations, counter-propaganda, combating the financing of terrorism and foreign terrorist fighters. It also helps with the stabilization and reconstruction of liberated areas.
The US Secretary of State is visiting Morocco after the early March visit of Wendy Sherman, who during her meeting with Nasser Bourita, Moroccan Foreign Minister, discussed the tripartite agreement with Israel and Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara.
