Belgium Extends Ban on Non-Essential Travel Until April 18 Amid COVID Concerns

Faced with the spread of the coronavirus and its variants, Belgium has decided to extend the ban on non-essential travel abroad and to the country until April 18. This announcement was made by Prime Minister Alexander De Croo.
The ban on travel from Belgium to abroad, and from abroad to Belgium, has been extended until April 18, 2021, "for the moment". This measure is justified by the spread of the coronavirus and its variants. However, this measure will be re-evaluated on March 26.
Following a meeting on the pandemic involving the heads of regional executives, a schedule for easing anti-Covid restrictions has been drawn up, said Prime Minister Alexander De Croo. It is planned to ease restrictions on outdoor activities. This includes the gradual reopening of cafes-restaurants and performance halls from May, when cultural activities are at a standstill in the country.
"We are well aware of the need for prospects after five months of sustained efforts. [...] This is not an automatic schedule, we will have to take into account hospital admissions," said the senior Belgian official, stating that "the situation remains very delicate".
