Belgian Royals Honor Moroccan Couple's 60-Year Marriage with Congratulatory Letter

The Queen and the King of Belgium congratulated a Moroccan couple on their 60th wedding anniversary. The happy couple are the parents of Mohamed Saoud, an Istiqlal activist and member of the Executive Bureau of the Party.

The parents of Mohamed Saoud received, on the occasion of their diamond wedding anniversary, the congratulations of the King and Queen of Belgium. An emissary of His Majesty the King of the Belgians had officially delivered a royal letter of congratulations to the Moroccan couple. Omar Saoud and Amina El Yassini, aged 82 and 80 respectively, received the royal letter of congratulations just before the start of confinement in March, reports lopinion.ma.

It is customary in Belgium for the royal family to send its congratulations to the rare couples who manage to celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary, reports lopinion.ma. The Moroccan couple has lived in Belgium since 1960, a year after their marriage was celebrated in 1959, in the Rifaine locality of Tafersit in Morocco.

"I went to wish them Happy Eid as I do every year this Sunday, and that’s when they told me that an emissary of His Majesty the King of the Belgians had come to officially deliver them a royal letter of congratulations," said Mohamed Saoud. He specified that his parents, due to the discretion and humility that characterize them, did not inform many people. Consequently, Omar and Amina celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary in strict privacy, with a few close friends and relatives.
