Belgian Pro League Considers Legal Action Against Racist Fan Chants

After the racist chants heard last Saturday during Beerschot-RWDM, the Belgian Pro League has announced urgent measures. Legal action is being considered in this case.
Racism in stadiums persists despite the multiple actions of the Pro League to curb the phenomenon. Last weekend, during the trip to RWDM, as part of the 8th day of the championship, the Beerschot supporters chanted racist chants in the stands. Another incident that has exacerbated the league officials, reports Belga.
Reacting on his Twitter account, the CEO of Pro League, Lorin Parys, condemned the act. "It’s just plain stupid." "The federal prosecutor will work on the basis of the match report. Beerschot has been contacted and a meeting with the supporters will follow. The Pro League will provide its support but will also ensure rigorous follow-up," he added.
"We condemn racist chants in and around our stadiums," the official continued, stressing that "the Pro League has already asked Beerschot to meet with the fans concerned. There is no place for racism. Measures will therefore be taken." Last December, a viral video showed these same supporters chanting Nazi and anti-Jewish slogans. An investigation had been opened, recalls the same source.
