A Belgian-Moroccan fugitive, who escaped from a Belgian prison in 2020, was arrested last week in Guinea. The justice system is examining the extradition request issued by Belgium.
Aged 27, A. I. is well known to the Belgian justice system. Convicted four times for several armed robberies, he has received a total of 21 years in prison, reports Belga, specifying that in March 2020 he had escaped from the prison of Saint-Gilles.
According to a statement from the federal police, the individual’s name is also mentioned in an armed robbery of an armored van that occurred in May 2021 north of Amsterdam.
Thanks to the intelligence of the Belgian specialized services, the defendant was spotted in Guinea. He was arrested in the night of December 16 to 17 by the Guinean police in Conakry, while he was going to a nightclub. Belgium immediately requested his extradition.
