Belgian Intelligence Delayed Report on Former Commissioner’s Alleged Muslim Brotherhood Ties

The State Security was supposed to submit a note in June last year to say whether the former Belgian government commissioner belonged or not to the Muslim Brotherhood. But it was only a month after the deadline that the report on Ihsane Haouach was published. The note would be a request from the Belgian intelligence services and not from the government.
The R Committee (Permanent Committee for the Oversight of Intelligence and Security Services) conducted an investigation into the reasons why the State Security waited a month before submitting its report. It appears that the note was "withheld" for more than a month, in order to verify certain elements but also because the State Security "did not wish to be instrumentalized", reports bx1.be.
Appointed on May 17 last as government commissioner to the Institute for Equality between Women and Men (IEFH), Ihsane Haouach had been the subject of a lively controversy. Some found it inappropriate to have appointed a veiled woman to such an important position. After multiple incidents, the commissioner resigned less than a month after her appointment. The Belgian press reveals that the resignation is largely linked to the note from the State Security and not to the criticism of certain members of the commission.
