Belgian Fugitive Sentenced to Life Imprisonment Captured in Morocco

The Moroccan authorities have succeeded in arresting Mohamed Aissa, one of the most wanted men in Belgium, suspected of having committed a robbery in Morocco.
During his arrest, the police discovered that this 40-year-old man was also wanted in Belgium. He had indeed been sentenced to life imprisonment for a violent robbery that caused the death of a person, in an apartment located in Brussels, on May 20, 2011. With an accomplice, he had carried out this attack, but while his accomplice had been captured, Mohamed Aissa had managed to escape.
On September 16, 2014, he was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Brussels Assize Court for this crime. Since then, Belgium has been actively searching for him, and he has been on the list of most wanted persons by the Belgian federal police since its creation in 2016.
Currently detained in Tangier, Mohamed Aissa will have to appear before a judge on March 1, 2024 to answer for his actions in Morocco. The Moroccan justice system will determine the next steps, taking into account his life sentence in Belgium.
