Authorities Seize 30 Tons of Spoiled Fish Headed for Casablanca Markets

Nearly 30 tons of rotten fish were intercepted by the security services, accompanied by elements of the Royal Gendarmerie and the veterinary services of the National Office of Food Safety (ONSSA). The quantity was discovered in a truck not respecting any hygiene standards.
The strong smell of rotten fish was enough for the units of the Royal Gendarmerie to intercept the truck that was traveling the Nouaceur road towards Casablanca. According to Hibapress, the 30 tons of fish were placed in barrels at the back of the truck, without any refrigeration system.
Intrigued by the state of the vehicle, the gendarmes discovered that the goods had no health certificate or document attesting to its origin and final destination. In addition, the transport conditions did not comply with the standards in force for food products.
On the orders of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the truck owner was taken into custody, pending the end of the investigation, while the goods were seized for destruction.
