At 9, Mohamed entered Spain under a truck; years later, he returns to help Moroccan minors

His story is told by Cadena SER. Mohamed El Harrak, nicknamed Moha, was nine years old when he managed to cross the border by hiding under a truck. Years later, he works as a social worker and supports young people who are now facing a situation similar to the one he experienced himself.

He is now in Sebta with the EXMENAS association, which notably includes former unaccompanied migrant minors. Several of its members have temporarily left their jobs and lives on the peninsula to join the city and help children and adolescents left without care following the mass arrivals from Morocco.

From a child hidden under a truck to a social worker

The priority is very practical. The volunteers interviewed by the Spanish radio station distribute food to minors and try to put them back in contact with their families in their countries of origin. Some young people still find themselves on the streets, outside the reception facilities. EXMENAS members say they have met minors who were « used and abandoned ».

The situation remains particularly tense in Sebta. In its report on 13 August, Cadena SER stated that around 2 500 minors, according to the estimate given at the time by the Spanish government, were still in the city. Some of them still had no suitable accommodation solution.
