Arson Attack Targets Halal Butcher Shop in Corsica During Owner’s Vacation

A halal butcher’s shop that had been closed for a few days for annual leave was the target of an arson attack in southern Corsica.
Called in the night from Sunday to Monday around 5 a.m. for a fire on Général-de-Gaulle Street in Propriano, the firefighters from the Rizzanesi fire station quickly brought the fire under control. The walls of the butcher’s shop were blackened by the flames, without any other significant material damage. The owner’s vehicle parked in front of the store was damaged on the front left side.
According to information provided by the Sartène gendarmerie, the perpetrator(s) of the act would have sprayed gasoline under the metal shutter at the entrance of the butcher’s shop. The fire then spread inside the store.
An investigation, led by the Sartène gendarmerie company, has been opened for arson.
