Arab Summit Recording Leaked to Israel Ahead of Six-Day War, Report Says

King Hassan II handed the Mossad the recording of an Arab heads of state summit held in Casablanca in 1965 in preparation for a possible attack on Israel. This recording allowed the Israeli defense forces to prepare for the Six-Day War.

In September 1965, Arab leaders had gathered in a large hotel in Casablanca to study their possible military confrontation with Israel. According to Ynet news, the heads of state discussed, during this closed-door conference, the possibility of creating an Arab military coalition, as well as the military capabilities of each.

Having no confidence in his guests, King Hassan II had reserved a floor of the hotel for members of the Mossad and the Israeli internal security services, in order to be able to closely supervise the conference. A decision that the sovereign had ultimately rejected on the eve of the summit.

However, at the end of the conference, adds the site, a recording of the summit was able to be handed over by the King of Morocco to the Research Department within the Military Intelligence Directorate. "Immediately after the end of the conference, the Moroccans gave us all the necessary information, and refused us nothing," said Rafi Eitan, of the Israeli internal security service.

Thanks to this recording, which was decrypted, transcribed and translated into Hebrew, the Israeli military intelligence directorate was able to have a precise vision of the behind-the-scenes preparations as well as the state of mind of the enemy’s general staff. The operation was described as "the crowning of Israeli intelligence".

The Six-Day War was launched on June 5, 1967, and eliminated, thanks to the information gathered by the Mossad, all the air forces of Egypt, Syria and Jordan. In six days of conflict, the Israeli territory was multiplied by 300, including the Sinai Peninsula, the Gaza Strip with its one million inhabitants and the West Bank, concludes Ynetnews.
