Appeal Trial Delayed for 24 Accused in Moroccan Tourist Murders

The appeal trial of the 24 accused in the murder of the two Scandinavian tourists in the Imlil region of El Haouz province has been postponed, according to the Criminal Chamber (2nd degree) in charge of Terrorism Affairs at the Annex of the Court of Appeal in Salé.

This decision by the Court is justified by the absence of interpreters, motivating its decision by the need to ensure the conditions for a fair trial, to allow each of the accused to defend their rights by all means and not to prejudice their interests, reports the MAP.

Sentenced in the first instance last July to sentences ranging from five years’ imprisonment to the death penalty, the 24 individuals are being prosecuted for the murder of two Scandinavian tourists.

According to the same source, these accused are being prosecuted for "forming a gang to prepare and commit terrorist acts, attacking the life of persons with premeditation and possession of firearms and attempted manufacture of explosives in violation of the law, as part of a collective project aimed at seriously undermining public order".
