Anwar El Ghazi wins his lawsuit against his former club
Moroccan footballer Anwar El Ghazi has won his appeal lawsuit against the German club Mainz. The Federal Labor Court in Erfurt ruled that his dismissal was abusive, ordering the club to pay him 1.5 million euros in back pay.
Anwar El Ghazi, former player of Ajax and PSV, prevailed against FSV Mainz 05. The dispute dates back to the fall of 2023, when the German club had dismissed him following pro-Palestinian posts on social media. While an initial ruling in 2024 had already declared this dismissal unjustified, the Federal Labor Court in Erfurt has just confirmed this decision by rejecting the club’s appeal.
