US and Morocco Bolster Security Ties to Combat Terrorism and Organized Crime

The meeting between Abdellatif Hammouchi, Director General of National Security and Director General of Territorial Surveillance, and US Ambassador David Fischer in Rabat marks a new start for security cooperation between the two countries. A cooperation focused on the fight against terrorism, extremism and organized crime.
This meeting between the two personalities was welcomed by American media. Los Angeles Times writes that the cooperation between the security services of the two countries is often cited as an example, reports Al Ahdath Al Maghribia. This cooperation, which is about 20 years old, has been strengthened since the September 11, 2001 attacks.
The Moroccan security services have effectively contributed to the international fight led by the United States against terrorism. They have provided useful information to the American services, which has helped them carry out targeted and successful attacks against many sites of the terrorist organization Al Qaeda in Afghanistan.
On Thursday, Mr. Hammouchi received the American diplomat in Rabat. The two personalities discussed the security cooperation between the two countries. Less than a year ago, a similar meeting had taken place between the head of the Moroccan police and Mike Pompeo, Secretary of State and former head of the CIA.
