US and Moroccan Navies Conduct Joint Exercise in Gibraltar Strait

The Royal Moroccan Navy Allal Ben Abdallah (F 615) and the US Navy, through the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group (HSTCSG), crossed the Strait of Gibraltar together and entered the Mediterranean Sea during a regular deployment in the area of operations of the US Sixth Fleet.

The Royal Moroccan Navy Allal Ben Abdallah (F 615) and the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group (HSTCSG) completed this crossing on December 14, 2021, reports Navi.mil. This transit was effective after the departure of the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) and its accompanying strike group from the naval base in Norfolk, Virginia, and Mayport, Florida, on December 1.

"It was a great experience for our team to sail alongside the Royal Moroccan Navy. Our carrier strike group has once again proven its versatility to enhance interoperability with like-minded partners in both training and real-world operations," said Rear Admiral Curt Renshaw, commander of Carrier Strike Group 8. "With our Moroccan partners, we certainly share the goal of fostering conditions of maritime security and stability in the region and deterring or countering those who threaten security around the world," he added.

In a statement, the US Navy explains that the Harry S. Truman will work alongside allied and partner maritime forces in the US Sixth Fleet’s area of operations, focusing on cooperative security efforts to enhance regional stability. "The partnership with the Moroccan navy through the Strait of Gibraltar demonstrates the strong maritime partnership with Morocco and its commitment to international law," the same source specifies.
