Ancient Dinosaur Tracks Discovered in Morocco’s Atlas Mountains

Moroccan researchers have discovered new dinosaur footprints at the top of the Atlas mountains.
According to new research on fossils, dinosaurs of different sizes and species coexisted in the Atlas mountains 160 million years ago. We would have to go back to the Middle and Upper Jurassic to identify these dinosaurs. This is a major discovery, note the researchers who have still not been able to determine the species of dinosaur that lived in this region.
"The field work carried out in this region has not provided any bones, which makes it difficult to associate the footprints with a specific species," explains Ahmed Oussou, the lead researcher of the study, to Huffington Post, indicating that the research will continue in an attempt to find some bones. New excavations are underway in the vicinity of the area.
In principle, dinosaur footprints disappear over time. But they can be preserved if they are made on soft sediments like mud or sand. This is what happened in Morocco where there were wetlands similar to those in Botswana, which helped preserve the footprints, he details.
