Anas Laghrari becomes Morocco’s scapegoat for tensions at Real Madrid

Anas Laghrari has found himself at the center of a new controversy in Spain. Several comments relayed in the media and on social networks attribute the position adopted by certain Real Madrid players during the campaign in support of Sebta to Florentino Pérez’s French-Moroccan adviser.
Before the match against Elche, Kylian Mbappé, Vinicius Junior and Ibrahima Konaté had concealed or removed the jersey bearing the message “Todos somos caballas.” The gesture provoked strong reactions in Spain, amid political tensions with Morocco.
Real Madrid had assured that each player was free to participate in this initiative or not.

The Spanish media outlet Qué! nevertheless puts his name back in the spotlight by referring to “Morocco’s tentacles” at Real Madrid. A real influence, but no evidence in the Sebta affair
Born in Casablanca in 1984, Anas Laghrari officially holds no executive position at Real Madrid. He has nevertheless become one of Florentino Pérez’s closest advisers on financial and strategic matters.
Co-founder of Key Capital Partners, he took part in financing the renovation of the Santiago-Bernabéu stadium and played a central role in the European Super League project. His alleged influence over the club’s future economic organization has fueled criticism from Florentino Pérez’s opponents for several months.
The events that followed even weaken this accusation. Florentino Pérez traveled to Sebta a few days later with Emilio Butragueño and Pirri. He signed the city’s book of honor and expressed his support for its residents, while stating that the visit had been scheduled several weeks earlier, reports Reuters.

His Moroccan origins, lack of an official position and closeness to Florentino Pérez nevertheless make him an ideal target. Questions about his financial influence at Real Madrid are legitimate, but at this stage nothing makes it possible to turn these governance questions into evidence of political intervention in the controversy surrounding Sebta.
