Amazigh Singer Fatima Tabaamrant Faces Salafist Threats, Gains Political Support

While she is the target of verbal attacks from a Salafist preacher, the icon of Amazigh art, Fatima Tabaamrant, former RNI deputy, has just received the support of Aziz Akhannouch’s party.
In a video posted on YouTube, a Salafist preacher hurled insults at Fatima Tabaamrant, reports the Arabic daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribia. "He does not deserve to be called a fquih and it would be giving him too much importance to engage in a controversy with him," reacted the singer. Subsequently, several Amazigh social organizations and actors expressed their support for the icon of Amazigh art.

After condemning the remarks of the Salafist preacher, the RNI coordination in the Souss Massa region expressed "its pride in the artistic career of the icon of Amazigh art Fatima Chahou Tabaamrant while paying a vibrant tribute to her artistic and creative contribution to Amazigh culture," reads a statement from the party. It also expressed "its categorical rejection of the insults and indecent remarks made by this individual against this great lady".
"Attacks that are in contradiction with the cultural teachings of our holy religion and with the educational function of the preacher," denounced Aziz Akhannouch’s party.
